Why GCO?

Interview with Steve Jeffries:

  1. How does GCO’s culture affect opportunities for growth and career progression?

I feel GCO nurtures a culture of career progression and overall growth in a variety of ways. The simplest example would be those who join within an entry level position such as a slot attendant, no previous casino experience required. Progression through their new role during their first contract through initial training support and guidance and then continued focused training for a cage or tables position during their second contract.

We constantly encourage our leaders to identify potential candidates for training and progression at all level whether it’s for marketing, tables, cage, or slots. As we constantly expand our operations with additional ships and new initiatives the opportunities are ever-present all the way through to roving and shoreside roles. So, it’s encouraged throughout the department from top to bottom and our cultural diversity empowers team members to develop their talents and skills.

  1. Do you believe reward and recognition add value to an organization? If so, how does GCO show appreciation for their team members?

I do believe that reward and recognition add value to all organizations. The importance of recognition is evident not only generally but within the survey results from our team members. They tell us it matters and it is high on the list of areas that matter most to them. Leaders recognize the amazing efforts of our team members during their meetings as well as through recognition boards on our ships to highlight team successes. Team members recognizing each other many of which are posted within our shipboard newsletter to reach a more global shipboard & shoreside GCO audience. We have the T.O.P. Awards program that recognizes team members at all levels onboard in a wide variety of categories.

Additionally, reward has come in the form or increased daily compensation since our return to service along with financial incentives for our shipboard leadership teams. We are continually looking for new and innovative ways to recognize those who exceed and delight our guests’ expectations as well as those whose contributions lift the onboard team as a whole.

  1. With regards to culture, how do you and the organization align?

I feel culture is the foundation of what we do for our guests and equally for each other as well as for any brand we may work on. I find them aspirational and inspirational in equal measure. After 32 years at sea, the one thing I know above all else is that I will always be learning from almost everyone I meet, guests and team members alike. Our company culture impacts me and my role as much as anyone else within our company.

Interview with Petr Bajer:

  1. How does GCO’s culture affect opportunities for growth and career progression?

With the current culture of training in place, the opportunities for growth and career progression stay within each employees’ abilities.  Recognizing and rewarding employees demonstrates both respect and appreciation for their efforts. It shows the employer trusts that they are doing their jobs well, which not only encourages them to thrive in our unique environment, but also to work harder to give their best efforts.

  1. Do you believe reward and recognition add value to an organization? If so, how does GCO show appreciation for their team members?

Suitable rewards for employees can help boost their self-esteem, whether it’s a simple ‘well done’ or a small gift. A great example, during return to service was the ‘thank you’ gift showing GCO’s appreciation for their team members. Rewarding employees is critical to creating a positive atmosphere and improving the happiness in our workplace.

  1. With regards to culture, how do you and the organization align?

GCO’s culture sets expectations for our staff not only onboard, but also shoreside, how they behave and work together, and how well they function as a team. Culture also influences career opportunities in a number of ways. In my case, culture provides me with a structured way to align my progression and thus allowing me to develop my professional skills to succeed in reaching my career goals.
